We wrote a previous article about the latest Refillable product, if you missed it, you can check it out. Introducing 2022 Newest Refillable DEO Stick Packaging (ixinpackaging.com)

From this we had inquiries and wanted to take the time to answer common questions that was asked about refillable cosmetic products. We hope the questions and answers will help answer your own questions, as you continue to explore refillable options.

Question 1 - Can you modify existing non-refillable tools for refillable?

Unfortunately the answer is almost always "no". This is due to several reasons why.

First reason is because we have existing customers that currently uses tool as is. So modifying the tool is not a Lego puzzle set. We can't modify, product and then re-modify again. This will damage the tool for future use.

Second reason is most refillable tools are more complicated due to having to add a refill cartridge. It's almost like trying to use a non-Lego block to fit with a real Lego. Sure it may fit, but not 100%. Which means there could be leaks, space, loose fits.

Question 2 - Can we open a new tool for refillable and what is the estimated cost?

Yes, we can open a new tool. This requires planning, drawings and prototypes before opening a bulk tool. We have in-house designers who can assist with this process.

Question 3 - What is the estimated cost to open a refillable tool?

This will vary based on design and usage. But you can expect anywhere from $8,000 to $25,000. But with recent costs increasing, we expect these prices to continue to raise. But China is one of the best places to open tool, as many countries actually open tools in China but ship the tool to another country.

China's tooling prices are usually very generous compared to another country.

Just the other day, we had a client tell us a manufacture in Israel wanted $100k for a tool but our estimated price was $28k for the same drawing. Based on this, the customer can order the tool and production units, which means their overall total cost is lower.

We understand tooling costs can vary based on a the countries ability to import metal needed for tooling, so prices will vary for different countries.

Question 4 - How is the quality of the tool you open?

Our tool always uses the best metals because it improves life usage of a tool and the reduce need to repair tooling.

To some of our readers who don't understand tooling quality, I can simply explain it this way.

Cheaper tool = cheaper price but you may only be able to produce 50,000 units before the tool requires maintenance or the tool may only be able to produce a lifetime of 100,000 units before you have to open a new tool. Which means, you may save upfront costs, but overtime if you have a great product selling, your costs will be higher due to the maintenance of a tool.

Question 5 - Do you reimburse tooling costs after X amount of orders?

The answer is "Yes", our goal is to make sure you continue to sell more. So we are happy to invest with you. For more details, this would have be discussed on an individual case by case due to how complex the requirement is. There are many options we can work on to insure both sides are invested together.

Question 6 - What styles of refillable do you focus on?

As of today, the refillable styles we are focused on are the following.

Deo sticks

Airless bottle

Various Cream Jars

But we are always looking to expand our categories.

Well that's all for now, we hope this helps you on your quest towards a refillable cosmetic packaging for your brand!
